Insert and customize an SVG pattern in Figma

Start with an editable pattern and adapt its color and scale to the design around it.

Choose the pattern for its role

Decide whether the pattern is a subtle background, a decorative accent or the focus of the composition. A dense pattern can work in a large graphic but compete with text in a compact card. Compare a few patterns before committing to one.

Insert and inspect the vector layers

Open SVG Patterns in Figma, choose a pattern and insert it into your file. Inspect the generated layer structure before making large changes. Adjust the relevant fills, strokes and dimensions in Figma, keeping an unchanged copy nearby for comparison.

Review at the final size

Place your headline or interface content above the pattern and check readability. Inspect edges at the intended export size. Enlarging the entire composition and changing a repeating unit’s spacing are different operations, so evaluate the actual result rather than assuming they produce the same effect.
